A note from Colleen Preston
Nobody walks through the door just wanting to work out.
In twenty-four years of coaching, I have never met a single person whose only goal was exercise.
Most arrived because they were done. Done with how they felt, done with what wasn’t working, done with the gap between where they were and where they wanted to be. They wanted change — for their body, for their life, for themselves.
I recognized that in my very first year. And it changed everything about how I work.
What people are really asking for
When someone arrives, they are not just asking for a program. They are asking — sometimes without knowing it — to be truly seen. To have someone pay close attention to who they are, how they move, what lights them up, and what quietly gets in their way.
I often ask people — if you had one Bentley to drive for your entire life, would you take care of it? Most people laugh and say of course they would. And yet we treat our bodies — the only ones we will ever have — with far less care and attention than we give the things we simply value.
There is more to a person’s fitness than a checklist or a questionnaire. By carefully listening, observing, and being genuinely curious about what motivates this particular person, the program can begin.
Within a short time, I know their body. And I know how their mind works. That combination allows me to give them exactly what they need—not what works for everyone, but what works for them.
The best coaches discard their ego and step aside for their client.
The practice of coaching is not to show off what you know. It is to create the conditions where clients can show up fully, stay committed to themselves and achieve change.
That means everything in our work together is oriented around you — your goals, your pace, your life, and the very specific version of support that helps you keep going when it would be easier to stop.
Why movement is where we start — but not where we stop
The Preston Method™ uses movement as the vehicle. But what we are really doing is something deeper.
We are building body awareness in people who have spent decades disconnected from their own physical experience. We are rebuilding confidence in people who have been let down by programs that weren’t designed for them. We are creating the conditions for genuine, lasting change — in how people move, how they feel, and how they relate to their own bodies.
People tend to think that an assessment is just about the body — injuries, history, what hurts and what doesn’t. And it is. But it is also the beginning of understanding how you are wired — what will help you stay consistent, what will make you come back, and what will make this time different from every other time you have tried.
What keeps me here
There is not a day that goes by where we are not solving a physical or emotional mystery together.
And the moment a client has that breakthrough — that sudden recognition, that shift, that aha — I am there for every single one of them. Acknowledging it. Celebrating it.
That is what keeps me here. After twenty-four years, it is still that.
